TI Graphing vs Scientific Calculators

Texas Instruments makes two main kinds of school calculators. Scientific calculators like the TI-30XS handle arithmetic, fractions, trig, logs and powers. They can’t draw graphs or store programs, which is why almost every test allows them. Graphing calculators like the TI-84 and TI-84 Plus CE do all of that and also plot functions, run full statistics and store lists and programs.

A simple rule: if your class draws graphs or runs regressions, you’ll want a TI-84. If you mostly need trig, logs and roots, or your test bans graphing models, a TI-30XS is enough. Read Is a TI-84 a Scientific Calculator? for the full breakdown.

Conclusion: The Right TI Calculator, Free in Your Browser

You don’t need to own every Texas Instruments calculator to practice on it. Use the TI-84 or TI-84 Plus CE for graphing classes, the TI-30XS for scientific-only work and the GED, and the graphing calculator when you just want to see an equation.
